Why Interlaza helps: for parents, professionals, and any child who's learning

By INTERLAZA

When someone asks “who is Interlaza for”, the short answer is: any child who’s learning, and any adult who wants to help them. The longer answer is more interesting, because it depends on who you are and what problem you’re trying to solve.

This article is for parents, learning professionals (speech therapists, educational psychologists, learning-support teachers, ABA instructors), and for families with neurotypical children who simply want to accelerate their child’s learning at home. It’s not an article for researchers — we have others for that.

Let’s get specific: what advantages will you see from day one?

Why Interlaza helps parents

Most parents who get curious about structured learning have the same question: “what do I actually do at home?”. There’s a lot of scattered information, a lot of YouTube videos, a lot of apps that promise things, and very few serious tools that a parent can actually use. Here’s what Interlaza gives you:

  • 10 to 15 minute daily sessions. No need to block out an hour or prepare materials. You open the app on the tablet, pick the day’s exercise, and you’re done. It fits before school, after a snack, or as the last activity before dinner.
  • The same material professionals use. If your child works with a professional outside the home, you can clone their programs and continue the work. Continuity is one of the biggest accelerators of learning — and it almost never happens, because there’s no practical way to copy what happens in session.
  • It adapts on its own. You don’t have to decide whether an exercise is “too hard” or “too easy”. The Interlaza engine measures your child’s performance in real time and adjusts difficulty on the fly. Three correct in a row? Next exercise has more options. A mistake? Difficulty drops immediately.
  • Errorless learning at the start. The first trials are designed so your child gets them right. This isn’t “easy mode” — it’s the standard technique to keep learning from getting associated with frustration. Incorrect options appear progressively faded and become more visible as your child demonstrates competence.
  • Works offline. On a plane, at grandma’s house, in the doctor’s waiting room. Sessions run locally and sync when you’re back online. Zero excuses to skip practice.
  • Genuinely bilingual. Spanish and English from day one. You can run the same session in both languages in the same week — it’s one of the most efficient ways to expose a child to a second language without hiring a private tutor.
  • Clear reports without spreadsheets. After each session, you see what your child got right, what they’re mastering, and what needs more repetition. Weekly summaries on one screen — no tables to interpret.
  • It tells you when something has actually been learned. The system uses a probabilistic model to continuously estimate the likelihood of mastery for every concept. It’s not a hunch; it’s a measurement. You know when a concept is consolidated and when it isn’t, without having to guess.
  • No credit card to start. The Family plan has a 14-day free trial. If you’re not convinced afterward, you don’t pay.

One honest note: Interlaza doesn’t replace a good professional. If your child has a complex profile, they’ll still need someone with clinical training. But between sessions there are five or six days where nothing happens. That’s what we fill.

Why Interlaza helps professionals

If you work with multiple children per week, you already know the problem: 60% of your time goes into documentation, material setup, and preparing the next session. The remaining 40% is the session itself. Interlaza attacks the 60%.

  • Ready-to-clone program templates. A library of complete curricula (MTS progression, relational frames, equivalence, daily routines, emotions and social life, animals and nature). Clone, tweak two parameters, run. What used to take an afternoon now takes two minutes.
  • Multiple students in one interface. Switch between children with a click. Each child’s data stays separate, progress doesn’t get mixed up, and you can compare cohorts without exporting anything.
  • Probabilistic mastery (BKT): it tells you when learning is real. Instead of subjectively deciding whether a child has learned a concept, the system computes a continuously updated probability of mastery with every trial. When it crosses 95%, you know the learning is robust, not a statistical fluke. No more guessing when to advance to the next program step.
  • Real-time error pattern alerts. If a child is marking position (always tapping the right option), if they’re guessing too fast, if they’re perseverating on a distractor — Interlaza tells you during the session, not afterward. And it proposes the concrete adjustment: rotate positions, increase inter-trial interval, reduce comparisons. You decide whether to apply it.
  • Errorless learning with adaptive prompt fading. Five prompt types (opacity, size, highlight, arrow, position) that fade automatically based on performance. You don’t have to manually decide when to step prompts up or down — the engine does, and you can override whenever you want.
  • AI-generated progress reports. Once a month, instead of writing the parent report by hand, you press a button and get a clean, professional draft based on real session data. Review, edit, send. Ten minutes instead of an hour.
  • Live supervision (S4). If you’re a BCBA or supervisor, you can watch your colleagues’ sessions in real time, trial by trial, with a three-second delay. Add notes that the instructor sees on their tablet immediately. Supervision stops depending on in-person visits.
  • Home-school-clinic continuity. Parents can clone your programs to their Family account. What you work on in session keeps being worked on at home with the same methodology. No other tool offers this structured continuity.
  • Cloud sync + offline operation. Work on the center’s tablet, the data shows up on your laptop when you get home. Lose wifi mid-session? Doesn’t matter — everything saves locally and syncs later.
  • Audit log for compliance. Every action is logged. If you handle sensitive minor data and need GDPR or COPPA compliance, you already have the records.

The Professional plan includes a 14-day free trial and supports several concurrent students. The point isn’t what it costs — the point is that you reclaim hours of documentation every week.

What the child learns

The Interlaza engine adapts to neurotypical children and to children with learning difficulties alike. You don’t need a diagnosis to benefit, and you don’t need to avoid it either if your child has a more complex profile: difficulty rises or falls on its own based on the child’s actual performance, trial by trial. Here are the concrete learning outcomes you’ll see:

  • Receptive vocabulary at real speed. Match-to-sample is, in essence, the way young children learn to associate words with things. Interlaza formalizes and accelerates that process. A neurotypical three-year-old can learn fifteen to twenty new concepts a week in ten-minute sessions. A child with learning difficulties progresses at the pace their own performance dictates — no artificial ceilings, no frustration.
  • Symbolic thinking before reading. Symbolic exercises train three kinds of relation: sound-to-image (the child hears a sound and picks the image that represents it), spoken-word-to-image (hears the word, picks the object), and written-word-to-image. These are exactly the mental links they’ll later need to read. It’s natural reading preparation — no pressure, no books.
  • Categorization and reasoning. Relational frame exercises train “same”, “different”, “opposite”, “is a kind of”, “belongs to”. These are central skills for all subsequent learning. A child who has solid category discrimination reasons better.
  • Sustained attention without passive screens. Ten minutes of Interlaza is not ten minutes of YouTube. The app requires an active response every few seconds. It’s the closest thing to “good screen time” that exists.
  • Languages in parallel. If you want to expose your child to a second language, running the same session in English and then in Spanish adds up to about three hours of structured exposure per week. Without a tutor, without a school.
  • Well-calibrated motivation. Because the engine adapts difficulty, the child never gets bored (too easy) or gives up (too hard). That middle zone is where learning genuinely hooks in — and where a child with learning difficulties stops associating the material with frustration.
  • Curricular concepts ready to go. Animals, food, emotions, daily routines, body parts, colors, shapes, numbers, letters. They come pre-assembled — you just assign them, no need to create anything.
  • Daily habit without negotiation. For many families, “the ten minutes of Interlaza” becomes a routine the child asks for. Like asking for a bedtime story.

For researchers

This article is written for parents and professionals, but Interlaza was also designed so a research team can build their own studies on top of it without having to maintain the platform. Two things are worth highlighting.

Data is protected by default, not as an add-on. Encryption at rest and in transit, hosting in the European Union (Supabase + Cloudflare), strict per-account separation, and an audit log of every sensitive operation. That means your research protocol doesn’t have to spend pages justifying the storage layer — the infrastructure already meets GDPR and COPPA requirements, and ethics committees recognize that quickly. The practical advantage: start collecting data without waiting three months for IT to approve a server.

You can build your own exercises and relations. The Manual Trial Designer lets you define your own stimuli, distractor pools, and trial sequences — with the level of control that normally requires custom-built software. Custom relational frame dimensions (Cfunc) let you go beyond the predefined frames and log variables that no other software supports out of the box. The full Varela Transfer Matrix is available with all fifteen levels and four configurable factors (dimension, relation, modality, instance). And all trial-level data exports in JSON or CSV — your data, no lock-in, ready for your usual analysis pipeline (R, Python, whatever you prefer).

How to start

If you’re a parent: go to interlaza.app, create an account, and choose the Family plan. Create your child’s profile, clone the “Complete MTS Progression” or “Daily Routines” template, and run the first session. It’s literally less than five minutes.

If you’re a professional: start with the Professional plan. Create profiles for your first three or four students, clone two or three templates that match their profiles, and run a test session with each. Within a week you’ll have enough data to start tuning.

If you’re a researcher: start with the Researcher plan and request a setup call if you want to use the Varela Matrix or the Manual Trial Designer from day one.

If you have questions, write to support@interlaza.com or use the contact form. We answer in less than 24 hours, no exceptions.
